Every object here has a biography and was made by someone with intent. We honor the makers, their materials, and their decisions. We do not sell, we document.

The Objects

Hand-Bound Notebook

Hiroshi Tanaka, Kyoto
Origin
Hiroshi Tanaka has worked in a workshop in Kyoto for four decades. He binds notebooks following the method of his grandmother, who found paper too valuable to waste during the war. Each book is made with the intent that it will be used, not admired.
Material
Unbleached paper from hemp fibers, 120 g/m². The surface is rough enough to slow a fountain pen, smooth enough for pencil. The binding consists of waxed linen thread. No glue, only knots. The weight is 180 grams. It lies flat when opened.
Dedication
For people who think by hand. For the quiet moment in the morning, before the day makes demands. For notes that should outlast the screen where they usually disappear.
